Scott's Charity Car Show Raises $20k for DeWitt County 4-H Fair Association
More than 250 vehicles were on display in Clinton Sunday, Sept. 27 as part of Scott’s 20 th Annual Charity Car Show, raising $20,074 for the DeWitt County 4-H Fair Association. The show featured car and truck classes, as well as miscellaneous, Jeep, Corvette and Street Rod classes. The show is sponsored by Baum Chevrolet Buick of Clinton. Johnnie & Michelle Crawford of Springfield earned Best in Show for their 1931 Ford Model A Coupe. Participants’ Choice was awarded to Paul Miller of Lexington for his 1961 Chevrolet Impala. Though the cars were a key attraction, the event also featured a car and freezer/meat raffle, as well as a 50/50 drawing. Sarah Harrington of Monticello took home the top raffle prize, a vintage 1959 Nash Metropolitan car. Winner of the second-place prize, a Whirlpool freezer with meat bundle, was Deb Ertl of Clinton. The Baum Chevrolet Buick team selected the DeWitt County 4-H Fair Association as this year’s beneficiary. The fair association is raising funds to build a covered awning for the horse arena at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Clinton. The covering will allow the DeWitt, Macon & Piatt 4-H fair and other regional youth activities to continue in inclement weather, as well as house the expanding rabbit and poultry exhibits during the fair. Outside of the fair, the awning will cover the enlarged show space used for youth livestock and horse shows throughout the spring, summer and fall, which draw into Clinton as many as 300 exhibitors per show. In addition to the 4-H Fair Association volunteers, the event was staffed by dealership employees and their families. More photos of the car show, including photos of all finalists in each division, can be found at the Baum Chevy Buick Facebook page. White vs. Black: Which 2026 Chevrolet SUV Exterior Color Is Right for You?
White vs. Black: Comparing 2026 Chevrolet SUV Exterior Colors If you're shopping for a 2026 Chevrolet Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Equinox, or Trax near in Central Illinois, one the decisions you'll make is choosing your exterior color. According to a “ Most Popular Car Colors in America” study released by iseecars.com in June 2026, white is the most popular car color, with 25.7% of the market share. Black comes in second with 23.4% market share, In third was gray at 22.9%, boasting a huge gain from data collected in 1996, when it only represented 3.6% of the market share. Despite the huge gains made by gray car exteriors, it’s easy to see why the most popular colors are black and white – they can represent two totally different personalities! White SUV exteriors emphasize clean aesthetic, minimalist style and practicality, while black, depending on the accessories, can deliver an upscale, aggressive appearance. Let’s compare white and black pros and cons. 2026 Chevrolet White and Black Paint Options Chevrolet offers two primary white finishes across most of the SUV lineup: Summit White – Standard solid white (typically no extra charge) Polar White Tricoat – Premium pearlescent finish with added depth and sparkle. A similar finish called Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, available on many 2025 and older Chevy models, has been replaced with Polar White. On the 2026 Traverse, for example, Polar White Tricoat carries a $995 MSRP price tag over standard colors. Chevrolet’s Black paint options generally include: Black Mosaic Black Metallic (availability varies by model and trim) Pros of Choosing White Stays Cooler During Illinois Summers If you’ve seen the recent news stories about how the pavement on Route 51 between Bloomington and Decatur keeps buckling in the summer heat, you know that the heat in Central Illinois is July is no joke. White paint reflects more sunlight, helping reduce cabin temperatures compared to black vehicles. Easier to Keep Looking Clean White vehicles are often considered to be superior in hiding pollen during the spring and summer, road and farm dust, road salt residue and water spots when compared against black. Cons of White Paint Premium White Can Cost Extra On several Chevrolet models, premium pearl or tricoat white finishes add additional cost to the MSRP. Summit White typically remains the no-cost white option when available. Dust/Dirt Shows Easily If you regularly drive gravel roads outside Bloomington, Clinton, or rural Central Illinois, mud splatter and dirt/dust is more visible on white than on darker colors. Less Dramatic Styling White tends to emphasize size and body lines. Black creates a sportier, more aggressive appearance. Why Buyers Love Black Black SUVs continue to dominate luxury and sport trims because of the premium appearance and customization options, often including black wheels. Models like the 2026 Tahoe RST, Traverse RS, and Equinox RS especially stand out in black because each offers black wheel and/or black trim appearance packages. Downsides of Black Paint Black is beautiful, but it demands frequent care. Owners should expect to wash it more often because many consider fingerprints, tree and corn pollen, water spots and scratches to be more obvious on black cars. Is the trade-off worth it? Many think so because there’s nothing quite as striking as a freshly detailed black car. FAQ Does white paint cost extra on new Chevrolet models? Summit White is typically a no-cost option, while Polar White Tricoat is a premium finish that adds $995 to the MSRP. Is white or black easier to keep clean? White generally hides dust, pollen, water spots, and light scratches better than black, making it easier to maintain. Which color has better resale value? Both white and black remain among the strongest resale colors, but white often appeals to a broader range of buyers due to its lower-maintenance appearance.
